Statement

Carola Desire is an artist born in Argentina, with Italian and Spanish roots who lives and works in England. Her work mainly comprises digital photography and also installation, performance, and moving images.

Her work explores feminine subjectivities, sexuality, and also their unexpected relationship with painting, landscape, and urban places— in an alchemy of tones, colors, contrast forms, and sensations.

Carola is inspired by paintings and sometimes sculptures of renowned artists that continue to impregnate her imagination and abstractly come up in her processes through marginal perceptions.

She studied photography at the Lino Ena Spilimbergo School of Applied Arts, at the University of Fine Arts in Cordoba, and at the La Metro Film School. Her formation began with theatre and dance and over the years she began to focus more on visual arts.

Carola Desire has been exhibited in Argentina, Germany, and the UK. Her last exhibition at the Emilio Caraffa Museum in Cordoba Argentina was selected by the federal program Art Boomerang under the direction of Daniel Fischer, a well-known Argentinian curator.

Carola has lived and  worked in the UK since 2020,  exhibiting in the Boomer Gallery in London and for the ING DISCERNING EYE award at the Mall Gallery in 2022 where she was selected by Karen Enters.

Commissions

2019 Salvajes, New commissions, ACUD MACH NEU Berlin Germany

Salvajes is a transdisciplinary exhibition that portrays "Wild culture" through works of art, live painting and music performances.

In the context of the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Berlin and Buenos Aires sisterhood, we offer a space to Argentinian artists living in the German capital. These artists develop their own routes of "new location awareness" prioritizing their production and self-legitimized environment, without hunting the creation of impact in a massive public. With their field experience as reference, the curator Mano Leyrado and the artist Aïda Gómez, artistic directors of the event, decide to call this global phenomenon "Wild culture".
